The dry type transformer meets the growing demand for eco-friendly transformers with fire protection feature, since it requires no liquids for cooling. Hence, this air-cooled transformer is ideal for use in the industrial plants and building complexes. Also, this power conversion equipment requires almost no maintenance to provide years of reliable service.

Our dry type transformer is used in various power supply occasions with AC 50 or 60 Hz and the input and output voltages less than 500V. It can withstand instantaneous overload, work continuously, and adapt to a wide range of loads.

Basic Principle

The above picture is the principle diagram of a transformer. When a sinusoidal alternating voltage U1 is applied to the primary coil, there is an alternating current I1 in the wire and an alternating magnetic flux Φ1 is generated. Then Φ1 goes along the core through the primary coil and the secondary coil to form a closed magnetic circuit.

In the secondary coil, a mutually-induced electromotive force, U2, is generated while a self-induced electromotive force E1 is produced in the primary coil at the same time. E1 and U1 are in opposite directions and have similar magnitude, thus limiting the magnitude of I1. In order to maintain the existence of magnetic flux Φ1, certain power consumption is required. Therefore, there is still a current in the primary coil which is called no-load current while no load is connected to the secondary coil.

If the secondary coil is connected with loads, it will generate a current I2 and produce a magnetic flux Φ2. Φ2 and Φ1 are in opposite directions and have mutual counteracting effect, thus letting the total magnetic flux in the core decrease and reducing E1, self-induced electromotive force in the primary coil. As a result, I1 increases which shows that the primary current and is closely related to the secondary load.

When the secondary load current increases, I1 and Φ1 increase as well. Also, the increase of Φ1 just compensates the magnetic flux which is offset by Φ2, thus keeping the total magnetic flux constant. If we do not consider the loss of the transformer, the power consumed by the secondary load can be considered as the power obtained by the primary coil from the power source. The transformer can change the secondary voltage by changing the number of turns of the secondary coil according to needs, but it can not change the allowable load power consumption.
